This will make your house smell like Christmas and it's super easy! Let me know what you think if you give it a try...
One orange, cut up
1-2 cinnamon sticks
2 bay leaves
2 tsp. whole cloves
water
If you have a potpourri simmering pot just put the above in it with water to cover. If you don't have a potpourri pot you can
just put it in a small pot (with about 2-3 cups of water)
on the stove burner set to low.
Keep an eye one it and refill the water as needed.

I tried this tonight. I didn't have any cloves and I don't have a potpourri pot but I did have all the other items. It smelled good but did not give my whole house the scent. Just the kitchen because that's where it was simmering. I wonder, do the cloves really make a big difference? It still smelled really good, just didn't spread from the kitchen.

Nicole, I think the cloves are the strongest scented item in the recipe so if you were missing those you were definitely missing "something". When I do this it seems to spread from the kitchen but not too strong. As much as when you cook anything and you can smell it in other rooms.
ReplyDeleteIf you really want the smell in a particular room they have little electric potpourri pots at Walmart that look like mini crockpots for about $7 or so. Which makes me think... if you have a small crockpot you could use that as well.
Well, that helps. I am not familiar with cloves so I didn't know. I'll pick some up soon. I wish I had a potpourri pot. This way I could put it in the room I want to scent. I'm glad you mentioned where they can be found, because I had no idea. I will look the next time I go to Walmart.
